Why we rank out of 100, and what the tiers are for

A ten-point scale hides too much at the top. A hundred points shows it.

On a ten-point scale, most of this codex would sit between 8.5 and 9.5, and the differences that matter would disappear. Scoring out of 100 lets us say that Baldur's Gate 3 and Elden Ring are a point apart, and that the gap between tier A and tier S is real.

Tiers exist for the opposite reason: to stop people reading too much into single points. If two games share a tier, either is a safe choice; the review explains which one suits you. The full method is on the how we rank page.
